Case Study.

Atlantic Gastroenterology Associates (AGA) is the largest
and most sophisticated gastrointestinal treatment center in the southern New Jersey region.
Established in 1978, AGA is now a leader in the rapidly advancing field of
digestive disease diagnosis and treatment.
When it became time to upgrade AGA’s network, DV Technical Solutions
was chosen to provide a solution.
What DV Technical Solutions found was AGA’s network needed to be
up-to-date. At that time, the network consisted of older computers and servers
that were not performing at their peak. The network AGA had was costing the
company in loss production and network maintenance.
The solution seemed easy enough, replace everything. But
with replacing a complete network came a huge cost. The new network had to be
reliable and cost effective.
With this in mind, DV Technical Solutions set off to design
AGA a new network.
The end result was a reliable cost effective solution without replacing the current user
computers.
Phase 1: Network Back Bone
The first step was to change the network communication back
bone. For this, AGA's network switches were replaced by a fully redundant switch
system. The new backbone was built over fiber links that provided the highest
data transfer rate. Zyxel switches were chosen for the cost, performance, and
reliability.
Phase 2: Servers and
workstations
Next, new servers were installed to handle their Practice Management Software, Document Management System, user documents, and Email. All
HP Proliant servers were used to accomplish this phase.
Phase 3: The $65,000
savings
The idea with this phase was to use the current user
computer and increase productivity.
To accomplish these tasks, DV Technical Solutions provided a
solution from one of their partners, 2X.
With 2X Thin Client solutions, DV Techs converted all 65 computers into thin
“dumb” terminals. These thin terminals would connect into a farm of high
performance servers located on AGA’s backbone. End users could only get to the
key applications they need to perform their daily duties. Only having this
option, productivity and network reliably increased saving AGA even more money.
If this solution was not used, AGA would have needed to replace all 65
computers.
When it came time to install computers in all AGA patient
exam rooms, additional thin clients were used instead of full costly computers.
Again, saving AGA money.
Phase 4: Additional Items and Solutions.
DV Technical Solutions also provided AGA with an internal
only Instant Messaging system and internal company web page that helped
increase company wide communication between staff, doctors, and management.
Remote Access for the staff became increasingly more
important. For this, SSL Explorer was used to provide easy and secure access to
the company’s network.
Thin Client solutions can be tough to design and maintain. Careful
planning has to be done to make sure your current mission critical applications
will work in this type of environment. If you would like to speak to DV
Technical Solutions about this type of solution, please call 610-422-3419.
